JOB DESCRIPTION:

The main role of AS400 Administrator is to manage and support IBM AS400 (IBM iSeries/Power Systems) infrastructure and involves in overseeing system operations, monitoring performance, managing user access, performing regular backups, and ensuring optimal system stability, availability, and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain the IBM AS400/iSeries/Power Systems environment to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Perform system IPLs (restarts), software upgrades, and patch installations (PTFs, LPPs).

  • Manage user accounts, profiles, authorities, and security settings within the AS400 environment.

  • Schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot batch jobs and system tasks.

  • Implement and manage backup and recovery processes using tools like BRMS or other backup software.

  • Conduct system performance analysis and tuning to optimize system resources.

  • Ensure system and data security by applying necessary patches, monitoring logs, and complying with security standards.

  • Provide technical support for AS400 hardware and software issues, working closely with internal teams and vendors.

  • Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and system architecture.

  • Coordinate with development and application teams for system changes, deployments, and support.

  • Assist in disaster recovery planning, testing, and implementation.

  • Proactively identify and resolve system-related issues before they impact operations.

Core Qualifications and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
  • Relevant IBM certification is advantage (e.g., IBM Certified System Administrator – Power Systems) 

  • Proven experience in AS400/iSeries/IBM Power Systems administration (typically 3+ years).

  • Strong knowledge of OS/400 and related system tools (e.g., IBM Navigator, Access Client Solutions).

  • Hands-on experience with job scheduling, system monitoring, and performance tuning.

  • Familiarity with backup and recovery tools such as BRMS or third-party equivalents.

  • Proficient in user profile management, security configuration, and access control.

  • Ability to apply PTFs (Program Temporary Fixes) and perform system upgrades.

  • Working knowledge of CL (Control Language) scripting and system utilities.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a technical support team.
